To allow Pidgin Messenger to work with Google chat/Google talk, you must enabled access to less trusted apps.
Login to your Google account and visit this link: https://myaccount.google.com/
Signing in -> Access for less secure apps -> Turn On
Now Pidgin Messenger will connect to Google chat.
